Another winter morning on a weekend in Bangalore and it was time to do another trek. This time we chose to hike up to the Thrayanadurgam Hanuman Temple. Why do I say “hike up”? Well, this too is located atop a hill. This hill is also locally known as Sanjivarayana Betta.

First a bit about the mythological roots about the place. It is local belief that Lord Hanuman stopped at this spot when carrying the Sanjeevani herb. And thus got it’s local name Sanjivarayana Betta. At the shrine atop the hill, devotees worship a naturally stone-carved image of Lord Hanuman.

The hill was located around 55 kms from our home. An early morning drive from home took around 1.5 hour for us to get the starting point at the bottom of the hill.

This was the view after a brief walk from where we parked the car.

One can see the structure atop the hill. That is where we had to reach. One can also see the pathway towards the bottom right; through the vegetation heading up the hill.

Here is us at the start of that path up. This time we were joined by our son too.

Here are some views as we headed upward to the top:

We stopped at a small shrine enroute.

Here are the views when we looked back to where we had started:

As we headed, we got more steps. Here are more photos from the section till the top.

And finally we were at the top of the hill. Here is the main shrine.

We were the only humans on the top. And an overcast morning in the winter months, there was a bit of mist covering the surroundings. A perfect time to visit!

As we explored, here are some of the views that we captured from around the top:

After spending close to 45 minutes it was time to back.

Recommendations

Based on our experience, here are some tips if you are considering visiting the place:

  • Go early in the morning. There is little shade in some patches along the way. But it can still get hot, especially on the hill top.
  • Carry water and may be a small snack. That is what we did. You can enjoy the snack on the top. Make sure you get back any waste :-). But be aware that there were a few monkeys around at the top. So be careful, if you decide to eat a snack at the top.
  • Though much of the walk is on stone steps, I would recommend wearing decent walking shoes.
  • This is an easy hike. However you have a quite some steps to go up. So anyone with knee or back issues need to take care.
  • Parking is not an issue at the bottom. However note that it is a small patch. Other vehicles if already present can pose some challenges. If you have an option of going on a two wheeler, then I would taking it instead of a four wheeler.
  • It is a religious place. So please be mindful and respectful of it.
