Never in my wildest thoughts did I ever think I would swim with Sea Turtles. And that is precisely what I got to do during a family holiday while in Malaysia. Well technically it was snorkelling.

We were taking a family holiday to Redang Island in Malaysia during May 2017. It was meant to be a holiday filled with water related activities. My daughter does scuba diving. The Redang Island is known for its crystal clear waters, sandy beaches and the waters support a great variety of marine life. So it was a natural choice for my daughter to pick it as one of the places where she wanted to go diving.

The beaches and the waters lived up to their reputation. You can see how clear the waters are around this area from the picture below.

When my daughter was discussing with her dive master we went to inquire on the other activities that were on offer besides scuba diving, for the rest of us. Snorkelling with Sea Turtles! Now who would want to miss that? Certainly not us! And that is what we got to experience on one of the mornings during our stay on the island.

Here is a picture of a baby Green-back Turtle at the beach before we went for the snorkelling:

Below is a video that I made of swimming with the Sea Turtles.

I would recommend to one and all to try it out at least once in a lifetime. Yes, many of us may be out of our elements in the water. But with the right gear and some courage and determination I guarantee that it will be an experience that one will never forget.
