Enchanting; there can be no better adjective to describe Mishmi Hills. I had heard of it being a legendary places for birds and other wildlife. But nothing prepared me for its beauty.
Mishmi Hills is located in the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh in India. The hills are a southward extension of the Great Himalayan Mountain Range. Much of the hills is located in the Dibang Valley; so named after Dibang river, one of the key tributaries of the mighty Brahmaputra river.
I had joined a birding tour to the Mishmi Hills from 22nd Dec 2018 to 30th Dec 2018. I had expected to see plenty of birds in the trip. But I was certainly given much more; the inescapable beauty of the place. The birding part of the trip is going to be covered in my next post. This post is however, dedicated to the beauty of the hills.
There is an English idiom which says “A picture is worth a thousand words”. So I am going let the video and pictures do all the talking in this post 🙂 .
Video Log
Here is a short video of some parts of the journey.
Around Roing
Around Mayodiya Pass
Enroute to Anini
Around Anini
Around Tiwarigaon
The real justice to the hills can be done only if one actually visits it. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and plan a trip!
Suggestions
- Tourist friendly infrastructure is still not well developed in these areas. While it is a good thing for the surroundings, it also means that one has to be prepared for limited (or no) comforts. Many places have electricity for a couple of hours in the evening. Just enough to get the cooking and dinner done. So be mentally prepared for this. Look at the positive side; no distractions like TV and so one gets to actually spend time with people 🙂
- Places of stay are limited. So book well in advance. I would suggest to go through a tour operator who is well experienced for these areas
- Weather can be a bit unpredictable, given the different elevations that one will be travelling through. So take protective clothing for different weather

great post 🙂
