Umiam Lake is a reservoir that is located not far from Shillong, in the north-eastern state of Meghalaya in India. The reservoir was made by damming the Umiam River.

My family and I were on a 5 day family trip to the Meghalaya. We were on the 4th day of the trip andthe night halt had been planned at Umiam Lake. On the first day our trip (read here), we had crossed Umiam Lake and halted there briefly. Though it had not been on our list of planned stops on that day, its beauty forced us to stop. Here are some pictures from then:

Nature had been kind to us with excellent weather throughout our trip. It had rained for us only on the first day and that night. All other days had been with bright sunlight. This being the 4th day, we had just completed visiting the surreal Krang Shuri Waterfalls (read about it here) and were now on our way to Umiam Lake. Mother Nature decided to remind us that we were still in one of the wettest places in the world. It started to rain and a bit later, had the mist rolling in.

We decided to make a short halt at a tea stall, giving us a chance to enjoy the mist and rains a bit more closely. Tea any one?

The sky had been overcast at the time of our stop on the first day, adding a different character to the lake and the surrounding hills. I hoped that the sky would be clear the coming morning, and thus giving us another perspective. Time would tell.

The next morning indeed brought clear enough skies. We were put up in a nature resort near the lake. Here is the view from the front of our cottage.

Before we headed off to Guwahati to catch our flight in the evening, we explored the area surrounding the lake. Here are some pictures from the walk:

An hour later, it was time to say goodbye to Umiam Lake and start heading back. Here is us saying we were here πŸ˜€
